Apex Legends: HUD & QoL Features

Aside from major new features (be it a new Legend, weapon, or game mode), Apex Legends also required upkeep and updates to its existing features in order to improve the overall player experience.

Listed below are a few of the feature updates/additions I provided UX Design for in the midst of work on new features that made it into the game proper.

Mythic Bins

Not unlike the Gold level Lootbins, the inclusion of a Mythic level bin was to incentivize players to try and get better or upgraded variants of their gear- ideally before another squad got to the bin first.

To this end, I provided wireframes to showcase the general conveyance and gameplay presentation for the Mythic Lootbins, and where their visibility needed to be communicated.

Lootbin Reset

Along with the Mythic Bin was the Lootbin reset system, which entailed closing & reopening the bins at Round 3 to provide additional boons to the players that remained in the match.

I provided wireframes and design direction for the Lootbin Reset process, implementation, and conveyance.

Mixtape Match Timer

Though the standard Mixtape game is relatively shorter in comparison to that of an average round of Trios, players had no way of knowing how long a particular match would go for, despite there being a time-limit running in the background.

With my UX expertise and wireframes, I helped introduce a timer specific to the Mixtape modes with consistent positioning into the game's HUD so players would know exactly how much time they had left in a match, not unlike what already existed for the BR modes.
